Experience susuk wangan a local tradition in Brongkol
Susuk Wangan
Brongkol-Sunday(28/7)
at Gembongan, Brongkol, Jambu, Semarang Regency. Was held a tradition called
Sowangan/ Susuk Wangan themed Amerti Tirta(Javanese language). Susuk wangan is
a local culture of the 10th villages in sub-district of Jambu to preserve the value
of the noble traditions of the ancestral cultural heritage. For the Amerti
Tirta theme, it means ngruwat banyu(Javanese language) or caring for the water. So, Susuk Wangan is
a tradition of the ancestors to be aware of the flow of water by cleaning the
river and fount.
Susuk Wangan
Amerti Tirta itself is a tradition that is held at the end of July and August
annually involves of 10 villages in
Jambu District, such as, Jambu Village,
Bedono Village, Gondoriyo Village, Brongkol Village, Rejosari Village,
Kuwarasan Village, Kelurahan Village, Genting Village, Gemawang Village, and
Kebondalem Village. This event is inserted with several traditional events like
Tumpengan ( A pile containing cone-shaped foods), eat simultaneously and local
traditions of the arts community.
The event in
Brongkol Village was started at 08.00 WIB which was started with a procession
or parade along with Kuda Lumping (Traditional arts puppet shaped like a horse)
procession from Gembongan Hamlet to the Gembongan bathing place called
“sendhang” just below the Kelir hillside, at Brongkol Hamlet, Jambu District.
The procession or parade was held lively and participated by all of the
residents of Gembongan Hamlet, Brongkol Village with attributes or regional
clothing such as “lurik” for men and “kebaya” and “jarik” for women with
accompaniment from existing gamelan songs.
At Sendhang- Gembongan has prepared with canopy
as the place for eating includes traditional foods which are deserved on the
mat, they also provide Coffee Kelir from Brongkol which serves for all the
visitors and participants in Susuk Wangan tradition.
The tradition of
Susuk Wangan Amerti Tirta was inaugurated by the chief of Jambu (Muhamad Edy
Sukarno) and continued by the speech from the chief of Brongkol Village (Heru
Sandhora). After the inauguration, the event was continued by eating “Ketupat”,
a dish made by tofu, and roasted chicken on the long mat together. We can
experience the atmosphere of togetherness in Susuk Wangan tradition.
After completing
the meals of Brongkol Village, the performance of Kuda Lumping with melodious gamelan
accompaniment was present as the closing ceremony for the Susuk Wangan Amerti
Tirta tradition in Gembongan Hamlet, Brongkol Village, Jambu District, Semarang
Regency.
