The Traditions of harvesting large amounts of coffee by Lereng Kelir residents,Brongkol Village




Gertas, Lereng Kelir- the tradition of harvesting large amounts of coffee is one of the traditions which are still being done by the residents of Gertas hamlet, Brongkol village until this time. The purpose of this tradition is as same as the purpose of “Sedekah Bumi”  tradition (The earth alms) to express their gratitude for God’s blessing and God’s giving for human needs.

The Traditions of harvesting Coffee is carried out in the morning and begins with a dance performances performed by several groups of men with the accompaniment of music from Islamic poetry songs that symbolize gratitude towards God.



This activity was continued by cutting Tumpeng (kind of foods shaped cone), then harvesting the coffee beans together and massively. After harvesting the coffee, they will conduct a procession around the village which at the end of the event will end with eating along the village road ± 200 meters. This tradition is done by every person of Lereng Kelir, Brongkol Village.
